Planning new goals (according to Lars-Eric Uneståhl)

Priority order

New goals should be planned in reverse order to what you usually do. So, you start by defining your vision (the meaning of myself and my life). Then you set your life goals - your mission (what I want to do to follow my vision). After this, you decide on goals in the different fields of life: work, relationships, health. Then you go down to the corresponding area of activity and decide in which area you feel it is most important to move towards a new goal. Only then should you decide for a long-term goal within the respective area of life. When you have done this, you decide when to start a time defined goal.

You must give yourself enough time in order to achieve your long-term goals and expect that you will need to rest along the way. The time defined goal must not be set so high that your resources are not sufficient to go all the way.

Before you actually start on your road to new goals in life you should consider:

1) The purpose of your new goal

  - the current situation

  - what values and goals guide me today

  - what is their origin

2) Inventory of goals

  - possible goals

  - which old goals and values do I need to replace?

  - with what?

3) Goal analysis

Appropriate goals should be:

  - concrete and clear

  - measurable

  - visible and attractive

  - under your own control

  - selected by yourself

  - optimally possible

  - have long validity

4) Selection of goals

If you do not know how to choose, listen first to your intuition, your inner voice. Let reason come second!

5) Balancing goals

Decide which goal is most important and which one may come second.

6) Goal formulation

Strengthen your mental image of the goal you want to achieve.

In speech and writing:

  - affirmations

  - self-acting formulas

  - contracts

In pictures:

  - photos

  - drawings

  - paintings

With language images:

  - aphorisms

  - metaphors

  - myths

7) Create mental goal automation

  - create automatic positive images

  - reduce fear of what is undesirable

  - formulate your goal briefly, ters and rhythmically

  - create ”triggers” and place them in your environment

  - bring images of your goal into your sleep

8) Mental integration of the selected goal

Load the image of the selected goal into your subconscious mind through regular visualisation in your relaxation training.
